Hocks Noise Braker®
How the Hocks
Noise Braker® Works
Wear your comfortable world famous Hocks Noise
Braker® earplugs and hear conversation
without removing your hearing protection.
Protect Your Hearing Using the Laws of Physics
The Accelerated Resonant Decay Principle
It is an axiom of physics that we cannot create or destroy energy. We can, however, convert it.
The Hocks Noise Filter® converts sonic energy into thermal energy by means of compression acceleration. The rise in temperature is so minute you will never notice it. You can still hear, but a dangerous level of sound can not possibly get through the filter.
The Noise Braker reduces harmful noise to non-damaging decibel levels.
In plain English, this means Hocks Noise Brakers® bounce part of the incoming noise back out of your ear, reducing incoming noise to a safe volume level.
As a result, no sound over approximately 85 decibels can pass through the filter into your ear.
The Hocks Noise Filter® in the plug attenuates very loud noises but still allows normal conversation to be easily heard.
The amount of sound filtered out depends on the volume.
As the noise level increases, so does the amount of hearing protection.
Hocks Noise Brakers® provide smart hearing protection, by converting any loud noise to a safe sound level of 80-85 dB, with no electronics and no moving parts that can fail.
The actual amount of noise reduction depends on fit (in the case of Noise Braker Standards), volume, and pitch (lower sounds are not reduced as much as middle to high sounds). The louder the volume, the more noise is reduced.
The Noise Braker utilizes the Hocks Noise Filter®,
an acoustic filter that reduces all sounds to approximately speech level.
Hocks Noise Brakers® do not block sound, they let it in at a reduced volume.
Filtered Hearing Protection Earplugs
The filter, inserted into hearing protection, allows air and sound to enter the ear. The Hocks Noise Filter® is designed to reduce the intensity of sound waves, as the sound waves get stronger.
The wearer can have a normal conversation without removing the earplugs. The normal voice can be heard with a slight reduction of volume, while the background noise is filtered out to a greater extent.
Most other hearing protection seals off the ear with an insulating material, such as foam, or silicone, thus blocking sound from entering the ear. Ears are protected, but these plugs can create problems. In addition to the frustration of having to shout to carry on a conversation, workers are frequently unable to hear warning sounds or alarms. Having the ear completely sealed off can also leave a stuffy, plugged up feeling. The Hocks Noise Filter® was created to help with these problems.
Noise Braker Cleaning Instructions
Clean your Noise Braker earplugs with liquid soap, such as Dawn, and water; rinse. Dry thoroughly before inserting into ears.
Your Custom Hocks Noise Brakers® have a vent hole. Dry vent side down on a paper towel or cloth, to drain any water from the filter.
Hocks Noise Braker® Standards: Dry with the opening down, on a paper towel or cloth.
The test data is for the Hocks Noise Braker® hearing protection earplugs made in Hocks Earmold Lab only, utilizing the Hocks Noise Filter®.
